Health minister furious with managers of Cape Coast Hospital

Health Minister, Sherry Ayittey, is furious with managers of the Central Regional Hospital in Cape Coast, for going public with intentions to close down the facility due to acute water shortage there.

National Security and the Ghana Water Company intervened by supplying water to the hospital on Sunday, following complaints by the hospital.

The Health Ministry is blaming the hospital administrators for inaction.

Public Relations Officer at the Health Ministry Tony Goodman told Joy News the hospital administrators have been summoned to answer questions.

According to him, since the facility generates money from its activities the Ministry expected managers of the hospital to be able to buy water to run the facility.

Cape Coast and its environs have been hit by an acute water shortage. The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has blamed the situation on uncompleted projects that were started in 2008.

The Cape Coast Water Supply Project and Baafikrom Water Supply Expansion Project were inaugurated at Sekyere-Heman in 2008, by President Kufuor to mitigate the perennial water shortage that was experienced in Cape Coast Municipality at the time.

James Lartey, GWCL Distribution Manager in Cape Coast, said the second stage of the project which involves connecting a 26km Ebirim-Agona pipeline to supply pure water, was not done.
