Seven Communities in the Sissala East District of the Upper West region are living in fear as a broken bridge along the Tumu-Chinchan road remains unfixed.
The bridge, which was constructed over a very big river to link the communities collapsed on June 4 June, 2009 and has since not been fixed, though it was awarded on contract two years ago.
During the rainy season, the communities are often cut off from the district capital, thereby, denying them access to market and healthcare among other services.
Mr Dramani File, the Assembly Member for Dolibizon Electoral who raised the issue during the first ordinary meeting of the Assembly said last year one person died while trying to cross the river to Tumu.
According to him, a motor bike carrying a pregnant woman to the Tumu hospital got involved in an accident while crossing the river, leading to the deformity of the woman.
He, therefore, appealed to the to the government to take drastic measures against the contractor working on the bridge and to also see to the immediate fixing of the facility before the heavy rains begin.
Mr Tanko Daniel Dauda, Assembly Member for Wellembelle said the delay in executing the Wellembelle electricity project is making the people to feel that they are being denied their share of the national cake.
He asked the government to ensure the speedy completion of the project to restore the confidence of the people.
Dr Avea Ephraim Nsoh, Regional Minister who is also Acting District Chief Executive assured the two Assembly members that he would personally take up their concerns and ensure that are concerns are addressed.
