Toronto based NGO donates books to UHAS

“Books Matter,” a Toronto based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has presented several titles of science-based books to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) at a short ceremony in Ho.

Professor Fred Newton Binka, UHAS Vice-Chancellor, receiving the books said they fitted well into the programmes of the University.

Theophilus Yeboah, Librarian, said the books would enrich UHAS’s Information and Learning Resources Centre, comprising print library, electronic library and a computer laboratory.

He said the print library currently stocks 150 titles and 800 volumes and the computer laboratory with a capacity of 50 computers, has 37.

Elikem Deku, a Dental Hygienist and husband, Keith Goddard, founders of the NGO, collected the books and cost of freight from individuals and groups, through appeals and other public notices.

Miss Deku told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the books were among a total of 3,200, some of which had been distributed to other schools in Ghana based on their needs.

She said the donation project was in collaboration with the Volta Youth Network (VYN) based in Ghana.

Matthias Alagbo, VYN President said, the donation of the books was in line with the Network’s advocacy to speed up the development of the Volta Region through education.
