Greater Accra Regional Minister tours Ada Municipality

Mr Julius Debrah, Greater Accra Regional Minister, on Tuesday toured Ada East, Ada West and Sege in the Dangme East District to officially inspect on-going projects.

Mr Debrah took the opportunity to educate the people on the District Assembly concept, explaining that the assemblies were established to serve as a local government institutions to address the needs of the people directly.

He therefore charged assembly members and district and metropolitan chief executives to work tirelessly for the assemblies to live up to expectation and fulfill its mandate to the people.

Mr Debrah encouraged assembly members to exhibit positive attitudes towards work and see themselves as local government agents.

He said the purpose of decentralization was to bring development to the district, therefore the assemblies must also identify ways of generating revenue from their own natural resources to complement government funds for development.

“Take advantage of the difficulties you are encountering today as a district and ensure that you make lives comfortable for your people,” he added.

Mr Debrah urged members of the assemblies to work together as a team and be co-operative for developmental gains.

The Minister also interacted with Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, Paramount Chief of Ada and President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, as well as the staff of both Ada East and West District Assemblies to formally introduce himself to them as the newly appointed minister of the Greater Accra Region.

Nene Akuaku pleaded with the minister to help construct an official office for the Ada Traditional Council.

He said in addition, the assembly lacked basic logistics to enhance effective operation adding: “basic logistics such as vehicles and accommodation for health workers and the water crisis in the coastal belt of Ada are major problem”.

Mr Debra later inspected the Ada Sea Defence Project aimed at checking the prevention of coastal erosion.
