Mahama has broken his promises to railway workers

Workers of the Ghana Railway Company are asking President John Mahama to keep a promise he made to pay their salaries on time when he is elected president.

The promise was made during the 2012 electioneering campaigns.

But the workers say contrary to what he promised, delay of their salaries have worsened since Mr Mahama assumed office.

Radio Maxx’s Ebenezer Afanyi Dadzie reported that a committee report on the ailing company had recommended that about 80 percent of the workers be relieved of their duties but some opinion leaders in the area are strongly against that.

They are rather asking government to secure some funding to revamp the sector.

Meanwhile, Afanyi Dadzie who spoke to some of the workers, said the majority of them are willing to be laid off once they are paid off and given their end-of-service benefits.
