Ignore coup mongers – Ex Coup Maker

An ex-coup maker, retired Army Captain Joel Sowu has asked soldiers in the Ghana Armed Forces to disregard recent coup mongering by certain individuals in the country.

The coup discourse started when retired Army Captain, Budu Koomson said the current streak of labour agitation as well as delay in hearing of the election petition case coupled with water and power crises could be used as an excuse by some disgruntled soldiers to stage a coup.

The main opposition NPP UK chapter which demonstrated in London last week also raised similar concerns.

There had been similar warnings earlier from Databank Chairman Ken Ofori Atta when he delivered the second William Ofori Atta lecture.

But retired Captain Joel Sowu who took part in three different coups in Ghana in an interview with XYZ News said coups are not a beneficial venture.

“…At the end of the day, the soldiers who take part in a coup do not gain anything and therefore I am appealing to the soldiers that they should not allow anybody to mislead them into thinking of staging a coup d’état”.
