NPP don’t support coup d’état – Nana Akomea

Nana Akomea, Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that the New Patriotic Party is not in support of what its UK/Ireland branch party chairman said about a coup d’état if the John Mahama led NDC government does not take steps to reverse the harsh conditions Ghanaians are facing in recent times.

“In this democratic world, anyone who would want to use ways and means to create mayhem that is not mandated by our constitution, we the NPP will not tolerate such person, that is not right because the constitution has stated clearly how to induct a President and how to impeach a sitting president. Unless the proceeds to impeach a President are gridlocked then one may be forced to use ways and means that is not constitutionally right.

“…But as far as there is a constitutional right to impeach a sitting President, We the NPP will not agree by any other means. So all those inciting coup should be rubbished…” he stated.

Chairman of the UK/Ireland branch of the New Patriotic Party, Hayford Atta-Krufi purportedly sent a strong indication that a coup d’état could be imminent in Ghana if the John Mahama-led NDC government does not take steps to reverse the harsh conditions Ghanaians are going through.

He expressed his opinions over the bad policies being instigated by the NDC government which has led to cancerous corruption that has affected every department of government and the lack of visionary direction by the Mahama led administration.

Speaking on Asempa FM, the former Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South noted that though the UK party chairman was giving an indication, some members of the ruling NDC made that same utterance without knowing its implications and further pledging to support coup d’état.

“Atta-Krufi was just sending a signal of what is likely to happen which we don’t agree with him. If one may recall, NDC’s Kakra Asamoah in the studios of Asempa FM did not even signal the coup d’état but rather would want to support any coup d’état in the country without stating any tangible reason. The NDC should also condemn their party member just as we are not in support with our party chairman,” he said.

He however called on Ghanaians to condemn such comments from any politicians since Ghana is enjoying it democratic state.
