Chiefs appeal to labour unions to call off strike

The National House of Chiefs has appealed to the striking labour unions to reconsider their decision and resume work on compassionate grounds while government finds a lasting solution to the impasse.

A statement signed by Naa Prof. John S. Nabila, President of the National House of Chiefs, said the situation was threatening the “stability, peace, and development of the country.”

According the statement, the Chiefs were calling doctors, pharmacists and lecturers to consider their decision in the interest of their patients and students who were at the receiving end of their services.

The statement also stated that doctors, with their genuine grievances, should tamper justice with mercy since lives lost during this period could not be brought back after the strike.

It said it was important they collectively built industrial peace and harmony for a vibrant and prosperous nation.

The statement said Government, the National Labour Commission (NLC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and aggrieved parties should soften their entrenched positions, co-operate and go back to the negotiation table to resolve the issues amicably.
