MASLOC saga: The state did not incur any financial loss – Board Chair

The Board Chairman of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Kaku Korsah, has stated that contrary to widely held speculations, despite the discrepancies recorded in his outfit, there was no financial loss to the state.

According to him, the money that was given out by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bertha Sogah, has been retrieved by the Committee that was set up to investigate the matter.

Mrs Bertha Sogah, was directed by the Office of the President to proceed on leave following reports of misappropriation of funds brought against her for, among others, her dealings with Amisgold Microfinance Service Limited, a company alleged to be owned by her husband.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, the Board Chairman indicated that “a lot of allegations were leveled against the CEO and as a board, I issued a query to clarify the issues so that we will know the way forward.

For now, I have been informed by the Committee that all the alleged money to the husband has been recovered. So technically, there has not been any financial lose to the state,” he said.

He noted that the Board would wait for the Committee, whose investigations he noted would be completed in two or three weeks, before a definite statement would be made.

He opined that because the board was not responsible for the day to day administration of MASLOC, they did not notice that such an amount of money had been taken.

“We have indicated to the Office of the President that within two to three weeks we should be able to come out with the report.”
