Striking Doctors to boycott NLC meeting Wednesday

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has given indications of a likely boycott of a scheduled meeting on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 with the National Labour Commission (NLC).

The meeting is to get the doctors to call off their strike which started on Monday April 8.

The Doctors have rejected the Commission’s ruling concerning the payment schedule for their market premium arrears.

They are insisting on full payment at a go.

However the General Secretary of the Association, Dr Frank Serebuor has told XYZ News that Doctors have had enough of such meetings.

“If the Labour Commission has anything to say, they should go to Court and enforce their ruling. The ruling that the Government failed to respect, that is what the Labour Commission should do,” He noted.

Dr Serebuor also indicated that members of the GMA have threatened to deal harshly with the group’s leadership if they dare call off the strike after meeting the NLC.

“They want to see that their monies are paid and also steps are taken to ensure that the right things are done”, he added.
