Ghanaian-American installed Queen mother

A Ghanaian-American was on Saturday installed as Queen mother of Adukrom in the Eastern Region, under the stool name, Nana Yaa Yaa Asantewaa. Known in private life as Madam Victoria Asare Danquah, Nana Yaa Asantewaa 55 lived in the United State of America for about 30 years.

Nana Ako Asare the second, Krontihene of Adukrom Traditional Area who performed the installation ceremony said Nana Asantewaa’s predecessor, Nana Akua Addobea, who is still alive was very old and wanted to abdicate the stool for a younger person to continue from where she had left for the development of the area.

He indicated that he and his elders had great plans for the stool adding “we understand each other and want to work together to bring the right leadership that will ensure economic and social development of the area. “Nana Asantewaa, married with two sons, is a journalist by profession and worked with the Ghanaian Times and Spectator in the 1960’s before leaving for the United States.

In an address Nana Asantewaa said she would lay emphasis on expanding facilities for education on the Akuapem Ridge especially for girls and urged parents to support educational programmes and provide the basic needs of their wards.
