Tano South NDC youth appeal for Police protection

Some youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Bechem in the Tano South District have appealed to the Police to investigate threats on their lives issued by unknown persons through mobile phone calls.

They alleged that they have been receiving the phone calls from unknown numbers since March 13, this year, and the unknown persons have threatened to shoot them or hit their necks with objects.

Some of the victims who spoke with the press were Yaw Afriyie, a mechanic, Gideon Osei Bonsu, Branch Chairman and Ama Obour, Branch Women Organizer of the NDP.

According to them, the threats had put fear in them and could no longer go about their normal duties or move alone even during day time since they were being monitored as the caller could tell them where they were and what they were doing at a particular period.

The matter has been reported to the Bechem Police but no arrest has been made yet.

The only person picked up by the Police had been granted bail and the serial caller had not been identified.

The NDC youth stated that the callers stressed that they were in support of Zakari Bukari Anaaba, Tano South District Chief Executive (DCE) and would ensure he retains his position and that anybody who tried to sabotage the DCE would be eliminated.

Mr. Anaaba when contacted on phone denied any knowledge of the threat and stated that it was a false accusation and believed it was a calculated attempt by some group of people in the party who want to discredit him to the President to lose his position as the DCE.

He asked the victims to allow the Police to do their investigations and stated that those allegations were baseless.

Kusi Amponsah, Tano South Constituency Secretary of the party told the press that the victims had informed the constituency executives and would convey a meeting soon to help calm the situation.
