Workshop for Local Government Staff underway in Koforidua

A two-day Orientation Workshop for newly recruited staff of the Local Government Service has began in Koforidua.

The workshop is being organised by the Local Government Studies Secretariat in conjunction with the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council.

It is to equip the over 150 newly recruited staff to know the roles they are expected to play effectively and efficiently.

Opening the workshop on Wednesday, Mr Samuel A Bawa, the Eastern Regional Coordinating Director, noted that the success or failure of any system depended to a large extent on the people who operate it.

He reminded the newly recruited staff that the Local Government Service has a crucial role to play in the development of the nation, adding that, that could be achieved through diligence, perseverance and dedication of disciplined staff.

Mr Bawa tasked each of them to accept personal responsibility for developing and exhibiting a strong work ethics and to affirm their commitment to combating negative work habits.

He entreated the participants to be hardworking and disciplined saying, “Mental moral and physical disciplines are bedrocks of habit formation”.

He also charged them to be guided by the core values of the local Government service which includes accountability, client-oriented, creativity, diligence, discipline, equity, integrity, timeliness and transparency.

The workshop is expected to end on Thursday.
