Free Medical Screening for 500 Elderly

A total of 500 of the aged on Republic Day enjoyed free medical screening in Kumasi.

The programme organised by the Garden City Radio (GCR), a local FM station of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, was jointly sponsored by Jofel Catering Services, first choice computer, KAMA Pharmacy, Akobalm and Nana Owusu and Sons Ltd.

Fourteen clinical students of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) conducted the screening, which formed part of activities to mark the 42nd Republican Day anniversary.

The regional director of GBC, Madam Rosina Amaning, said the programme, which is likely to continue throughout the month, is in appreciation of the contribution of the senior citizens towards the country’s development.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to GCR and the sponsors for their gesture.

They said most of them are unemployed and need the support of society to meet their medical needs.

The Metro Chief Executive, Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, who graced the occasion with his presence, commended the management of GCR for the programme, and assured that the KMA would support subsequent exercises.

Jumah stressed the need to build separate hospitals for the aged to ensure that they are given special attention.

The Kumasi mayor announced that the KMA has plans to put up a community centre for the rehabilitation of senior citizens and called for public support for the proposed project.
