Heavy police-military presence in Alavanyo-Nkonya townships

There is still heavy police-military presence in the Alavanyo-Nkonya townships and surrounding communities to prevent renewed communal clashes.

There were reports of sporadic shooting at the outskirts of the two towns throughout Saturday but the security patrol teams were able to contain the situation.

The two communities have a long standing feud over a piece of land but the latest turmoil was sparked by the murder of an elderly man at Alavanyo last Thursday.

Dusk to dawn curfew and a ban on all persons from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon, in the two towns and surrounding communities has been imposed.

But residents there are still living in fear. Volta Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Joy Afegbedzi however told Joy News there is no cause for alarm.

Chief Inspector Joy Afegbedzi assured that the police and military personnel are in control of the situation.
