We will conduct our own investigations – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will conduct its own investigations into the near-fatal accident of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice presidential candidate in the 2012 Presidential election.

An accident nearly claimed the life of Dr. Bawumia on Sunday when the two tyres of his brand new Toyota Land Cruiser V8 suddenly exploded and somersaulted. The former governor of Bank of Ghana escaped and has been treated and discharged.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM, General Secretary of the opposition NPP, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as Sir John, indicated that the party is conducting its own investigations because they no longer trust the police to conduct credible investigations.

Sir John said based on previous experience involving the police and how they conduct their investigations, he ordered that the mangled car be taken to the manufacturers for them to conduct investigations and ascertain what led to the accident.

According to him, “I do not trust whatever this administration will order its NDC policemen to undertake – If we leave it in the hands of the police nothing will be done”.

Sir John who is alleging complicity on the side of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the police can conduct their own investigations; however, they are not going to depend or work with their report.

“It was important and proper that we did what we did. Nothing stops the police from conducting their own investigations if they want. This is a country where people can get away with murder and that is why it is in our interest to conduct the investigations ourselves…” he opined.
