PTA begs teachers to return

The National Council of Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) has appealed to striking teachers to reconsider their stance and return to the classrooms.

They said it was very crucial for the teachers to be magnanimous towards their students, especially as they prepare to write their final exams.

“We (the National Council of PTAs) call on the leaders of the two teacher-unions to humbly reconsider their decision and go back to the classrooms while the issue is being resolved for the sake of our children who are the future leaders of the country,” Torgbui Attipoe, Vice President of the Council, said.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) began their strike on Monday to press home their demands for improved condition of service.

Describing the industrial action as “very unfortunate and worrisome”, Torgbui Duklui Attipoewho told the Ghana News Agency it will have serious negative impact on final year students.

He urged the GNAT and NAGRAT, as well as government to avoid the blame game and find a lasting solution to the problem in the shortest possible time.

“We assure the parties involved that as stakeholders in the educational sector, we will help in pressing for what is due them as good workers of this nation,” Torgbui Attipoe said.

“We count on their normal and usual cooperation in developing our wards and children.”
