An Accra circuit court on Monday convicted a Nigerian Michael Ifeanyi to a fine of GHS 2,400 for stabbing his colleague twice in the back.
Ifeanyi who pleaded guilty to causing harm in default would serve a two-year jail term.
The court presided over by Mrs Justice Patience Mills-Tetteh, a High Court Judge sitting with additional responsibility as a circuit court judge ordered Ifeanyi to pay GHS 200 cedis to Emmanuel Rannis, the complainant, as his medical bills.
The court recommended to the Ministry of Interior to deport Ifeanyi to Nigeria after serving his sentence.
Prosecuting Chief Inspector Isaac Dedoo told the court that the convict and the complainant sell mobile accessories at Abeka Lapaz.
On March 4, Rannis was standing in front of his table attending to his customer when Ifeanyi without any provocation stabbed him twice in the back.
Ifeanyi went to report himself to the Police at Lapaz and a few hours later the complainant also proceeded to the same Police Station and identified Ifeanyi as the one who stabbed him in the back and was arrested.
