Cop arrested for stealing car batteries

The Abura Dunkwa District Police Command on Tuesday arrested a policeman in the District, Constable Frank Twum, who stole a car battery from an abandoned taxi at the police station.

Frank Twum who was detained has been granted a self recognizant bail while a letter has been sent to the Regional Police Commander through the Divisional Commander for disciplinary action to be taken against him.

Briefing Daily Guide on Thursday, the Abura-Asebu-Kwanmakese (AAK) District Police Commander, DSP Bernard Twum-Berimah, said the incident happened on March 13, 2013, around 9:00am.

DSP Twum Berimah added that his outfit received a telephone call that the police officer had removed one of the abandoned car batteries and had left for Cape Coast.

He said he dispatched some officers to chase him but was arrested at Pra Ewusi, a community in the district.

The Police Commander disclosed that when Twum was interrogated, he alleged he had wanted to use the battery to assist a friend in Cape Coast.

DSP Twum Berimah noted that a confidential report was sent to medical board before the incident happened, as they suspected he had a mental problem due to his strange behaviour.
