Provide Winneba Prisons officers with accommodation – Superintendent

Chief Superintendent Jusa Knight Amoah, Commanding Officer of the Winneba Local Prisons has appealed to corporate bodies and non-governmental organisations to come to their aid.

He said they need assistance, especially in the area of accommodation for officers and the rehabilitation of the inmates.

He noted that accommodation was a big challenge for the institution as new officers posted there had to stay with other colleagues.

Chief Superintendent Amoah made the appeal at a reception the Command held for the officers at the weekend in Winneba to review their activities and to strategize for the future.

He said the official barracks which is housing over 30 households is now in a dilapidated state and needs immediate rehabilitation to save it from collapse.

The Commanding Officer said currently the institution has in custody a total of 187 inmates as against 224 inmates in 2011, adding that during the year under review the station recorded no escapes, attempted escapes or any serious mishaps.

The Chief Superintendent in this regard on behalf of the Director-General of Prisons, members of the Directorate and the Regional Commander commended the officers for putting up good and responsible behaviours during the year under review.

He urged them to continue maintaining the discipline and the standard.

He used the occasion to express his appreciation to the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Mike Hammah, the current MP, Mr Alex Afenyo-Markins, Nii Ephraim, Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, for their continuous support to the station.
