Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) James Azumah Abass Abaah, acting Eastern Regional Commander, has asked police personnel not to forget their pledge to protect the citizenry at all times.
“Do not let us forget that our major duty is to protect the citizenry at all times irrespective of one’s political, religious, ethnic, and cultural background,” he added.
He urged them to conduct themselves well to win the confidence of the citizenry.
ACP Abass Abaah was speaking at the annual celebration of the West Africa Security Services Association (WASSA) of the Ghana Police Service, in Koforidua over the weekend.
He attributed the success of the police, especially in fighting highway armed robbery and other criminal activities, to the cordial relationship and support of the people.
ACP Abass Abaah also commended personnel in the region for making the 2012 general election incidence free and asked them to be on the alert for any unforeseen circumstances.
He asked the police to eschew tendencies that could create bad image for the Ghana Police Service and warned that the Police administration would not shield any officer who would flout the rules and regulations of the service.
ACP Abass Abaah said the Police Training School in Koforidua that was established 60 years ago now has a shooting range and commended Opanyin Ayeh, Managing Director of Ayah Construction Limited in Koforidua, for providing the facility.
He appealed to individuals, organisations and District Assemblies to assist the Training School, to acquire accommodation for police trainees, and commended traditional authorities and people in the area for supporting the police to discharge their duties.
