Joseph Quainoo, 18, a vulcaniser resident at Siwdu Compound a suburb of Cape Coast has been sentenced to six months imprisonment in hard labour by a Cape Coast Magistrate’s Court for stealing items worth GHS12.70

He was sentenced on his plea for stealing the items belonging to one Madam Lydia Addae.

Reading the facts of the case to the court presided over by Ms Mercy Adei Kotei, Police Sergeant Charles Effah said at about 1820 hours on February 27 Madam Addae who is a petty trader at the Ewim Government Hospital went to open her shop to begin her daily sales.

He said the complainant then brought out a rubber container which contained one pack of pampers valued at GHS3.20, biscuits valued GHS6.00, and seven sachets of pastries also valued GHS3.50 and placed it in front of the shop.

Sgt Effah said Madam Addae entered her shop to bring out other items but the convict took advantage of the situation and quickly made away with the rubber container.

The Prosecutor said the convict attempted to flee with his booty but was however spotted by a security man at the hospital who pursued and arrested him and later took him to the Kotokuraba Police Station.
