Mr Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has said political parties should be seen as vehicles for bringing more ideas to the national discourse for people to make informed choice and not to divide the nation.
He urged Ghanaians not to allow politics to divide them but should see themselves as one people towards the development of the nation.
Mr Oppong made this known at a parade of school children to mark Ghana’s 56th Independence Anniversary Celebration at Agona Swedru in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region on Wednesday.
The theme for the celebration was “Partnership and Innovation for Building a new and better Ghana”.
Twenty-four basic schools and Senior High schools from the private and public sector took part in the parade.
Mr Oppong urged Ghanaians to eschew politics of insults and acrimony since they do not promote true democracy, adding that without unity it would be difficult for the nation to thrive in its effort to achieve socio-economic transformation.
The MCE expressed concern about bad habits on the part of the people on indiscriminate waste disposal in the Municipality.
He expressed regret that the Municipality had been engulfed with filth and announced that the Assembly would organize clean-up exercise every one month.
