Be proud of Ghana’s success at 56 – Gov’t

As Ghana marks its 56th independence anniversary today with colourful parades across the country, government has appealed to Ghanaians to be proud of the success the country has achieved in the last 56 years.

The Information and Media Relations Minister, Mahama Ayariga, in an interview with Citi News, indicated that the country would be marking the beginning of forging together ahead as one country.

He said the day is worth celebrating since the country has seen lots of development.

According to him, a change in the way governance takes place would be realized under the president’s term of office.

“The president in his first initial address indicated that his term in office would be marked by partnership in managing the affairs of this country,” he added.

President John Dramani Mahama will address a national parade of school children and contingents of security personnel at the Independence Square in Accra to mark the occasion.

Similar parades will be held in all the regional and district capitals, during which representatives of the president will take the national salute and read the Head of State’s speech.

As part of activities marking the event, 20 pupils who excelled in the 2012 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), were yesterday presented with the President’s Independence Awards.
