40 students hospitalised for food poisoning

About 40 students of the Adonten Senior High School in the Eastern Region have been hospitalised following what medical professionals describe as a case of food poisoning.

The students, according to the doctors, began exhibiting symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting after a meal of beans and gari on Sunday night.

Isaac Apraku, a journalist in the Eastern Region reported that “most of the students are suffering from a running stomach as a result of the food they had. I tried speaking to a tutor of the school but [he] declined and asked us to speak to the school authorities.

There are students at Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital receiving treatment.”

Meanwhile, the Medical Superintendent of the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in the Eastern region, Dr. Kafui Setsofia assured Citi News the situation was under control.

The District Health Director for Akuapim South, Eunice Abuakor, indicated to Citi News, “it is not yet certain what is the problem; we are still doing our investigations, we’ve been to the school and the hospital where the over 40 students are receiving treatment.

We have not yet come to a conclusion as to whether the incident is food poisoning, cholera or any other disease,” she added.

According to Madam Abuakor, her outfit has held deliberations with the headmaster and matron at the school. She noted that food samples were going to be collected to aid with further investigations.
