Court jails farmer for stealing cocoa fertiliser bags

A 39-year-old farmer, Kwame Duku, who stole two bags of cocoa fertilisers valued at GH¢ 66.00, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment in hard labour on his own plea by the Tarkwa Circuit Court.

The bags belongs to Cocoa Input Ghana Limited’s branch at Ateiku in the Western Region.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant is the store keeper of the company’s branch at Atieku, and resides in the same vicinity with the convict.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said, at around 1430 hours on February 9, the convict was seen with the bags.

She said while Duku was conveying the items into his room, a witness in the case saw him and reported the incident to the complainant.

According to the Prosecutor, the complainant arrested Duku with the stolen items and handed him over to the police.
