Police arrest three suspected robbers in Kumasi

Two teenagers and a driver are in the grips of the Kumasi police. They were arrested at a police snap check point whilst returning from an alleged robbery voyage.

Faisal Karim and Agya Adu, 18, and their accomplice, a 38-year-old driver Owusu Bempah were arrested at dawn on Wednesday, police say.

The police retrieved a locally manufactured pistol and a large amount of money from the suspects.

The suspects are reported to have robbed a trader at Kronum of GHC1, 800 and other personal belongings.

A search also led to the discovery of three unused cartridges, a Techno mobile phone as well as voter and national health insurance identity cards of persons believed to be robbery victims.

The taxi cab used by the robbers, a Toyota Corolla caravan with Registration Number AS 2066 Y has been impounded, the police added.

Regional Police Operations Commander, Julius Kpebbeson, who underscores the importance of snap checks, wants residents to give police all the needed cooperation to help bring robbery under control.

He is unhappy many residents over the years have been attacking the police for mounting unannounced road checks because of the inconveniences.

“Policing in society is a shared responsibility and the police are friends and not an enemy. We are not on the road to create inconvenience. We there in the interest of the very people who at times feel we are unduly delaying their movement,” DSP Kpebbeson noted.
