Don’t rely on debt-riddled TOR – Wereko-Brobbey tells gov’t

Energy expert Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby has suggested that the government encourages private partnership in the refining of crude in Ghana rather than rely on the debt-riddled and intermittently embattled state-owned Tema Oil Refinery.

The former CEO the Volta River Authority says inviting private competition into the refining industry will save Ghana a lot of money and headache.

He made the suggestion at a lecture on Ghana’s energy sector titled:“When ignorance is not bliss: The Politricks of Petroleum Pricing in Ghana”.

Dr. Wereko Brobby’s comments come amidst debates about whether TOR should be privatized.

The debate was started by CEO of the National Petroleum Authority, Alex Mould.

Dr. Wereko Brobby said that the government must leave the business of refining crude to the private sector and suggested a bi-partisan approach of dealing with fuel price fixing so as to eliminate political propaganda with fuel price fixing.
