Questions over Mahama’s bodyguard

XYZ News has gathered that some security officers at the Presidency are uncomfortable with the President’s retention of a Police officer as his body guard instead of appointing a top ranking military officer for that purpose.

Sources say the President feels comfortable with his guard who has been with him since he became a Vice President and consequently head of the Police Council.

By convention, the President who is now the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed forces is expected to have a Military Officer with the rank of a colonel as his top security aide.

However, a retired Major General of the Ghana Armed forces, Nii Coleman in an interview with XYZ News said the president has the prerogative to appoint whoever he feels comfortable with as his bodyguard.

He nonetheless suggested that the president keeps to tradition.

“The title ADC is a military title so if the president chooses to put somebody behind him that person is not his bodyguard.

“Why would have a policeman behind the President, what for, are you putting him there as his personal bodyguard or what.

“I think the president would be the best person to answer this question as to why he is keeping the Policeman there,” Major Coleman said.
