Ten remanded for attack on Military in Bekwai

Ten people have been remanded in prison custody in relation to the attack on some military men and forestry officials at Koniyaw forest in the Bekwai municipality.

Officers of the 4th infantry battalion in Kumasi on an operation to evacuate illegal miners who had taken over Koniyaw Forest Reserve in the Bekwai Municipality, run into an ambush, which led to two officers sustaining injuries.

24 persons were picked up by a police cum military joint force after the incident.

In an interview Citi FM, the Bekwai Divisional Police Commander, ASP Alan Potter indicated that the ten will appear before a Circuit Court next month.

“After screening, we sent ten of them to court and released them on bail.

According to him, some names have come up already which will aid them in their investigations in order to bring the culprits to book.

“We will continue with the investigation and be able to find those who are behind the attack. As at now, some names are coming up, we would intensify our efforts to get those who names have been mentioned for questioning” he added.
