Contrary to some Ghanaians’ expectations, President John Mahama will not be moving into the Flagstaff House, the official presidential residence, anytime soon.
The House was rebuilt in 2008 to be used as the office and official residence of the president and his vice.
On Tuesday February 5, 2013, Information Minister Mahama Ayariga announced that the seat of government would officially move from the Castle in Osu to the Flagstaff House on Thursday, 7th February, 2013, from which time formal government business will be conducted there.
Speaking on “The Big Issue” segment of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Wednesday, however, Mr. Ayariga clarified that the President will not be residing in the Flagstaff House.
He said that government would “make indications later” should the President decide to inhabit the Presidential abode.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ayariga reported that much has been done to address security issues that would have made it imprudent to relocate the President to the Flagstaff House.
