Mahama Defends Visually Impaired Minister

President Mahama says he is confident the minister-designate for Chieftaincy and Culture will be able to deliver on his mandate if he is given the necessary support by the chiefs.

According to the President, the disability of Dr Seidu Danaa is by no means an inability to perform as a Minister of State.

President Mahama made the remarks on Monday when the standing committee of the National House of Chiefs paid a courtesy call on him to congratulate him for his victory during last year’s elections.

For his part the President of the National House of Chiefs Professor Naa Nabila said the house is looking for forward to a successful relationship working with Dr Seidu Dana.

He noted that the chiefs themselves will institute a committee to work towards settling conflict over lands in their various jurisdictions

The nomination of Dr. Henry Seidu Daanaa who is visually impaired was publicly protested by some chiefs including a paramount chief of the Seikwa Traditional Area, Nana Kwaku Dwomo Ankoana II, who stated that it was an abomination to choose a physically-challenged person to lead a chieftaincy institution.
