Konadu Rawlings Still NDP Leader – Owusu Bempah

The National Democratic Party (NDP) has denied claims that its leader and former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has initiated plans to rejoin the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

A member of the party’s Communications team, Ernest Owusu Bempah, popularly known as ‘Billy Goat,’ told DAILY GUIDE emphatically that “it is not true.”

“Mrs Rawlings is still the leader of the National Democratic Party and she has never had any intention of leaving the party and she never will.”

“I’ve spoken to her and I’m speaking on authority that she is not going to join the NDC. That is going to be the last thing she’s going to do in her life; to go back and join the NDC,” he noted.

In view of this, he stated that “there is no way Mrs. Rawlings is going to leave and join the NDC; it’s never going to happen. She is still comfortable where she is and as she put it in her own words she is very happy ever since she left the NDC.”

Owusu Bempah said “she feels that there is a heavy burden that has been taken off her shoulders and very happy in the NDP.”

He was extremely surprised that such a story would be put out by a serious newspaper in reference to the Al Hajj tabloid.

“I think we have to create a refuse dump for intoxicated newspapers which come out and spew lies about private individuals without any level of truth in it and I think that it’s about time that the Media Commission gets up and do something about it.”

This, he said, was because “it is absolutely unpardonable for certain group of people to go out there and make statements to that effect.

“We should treat it with the highest contempt it deserves.”

During the interview, the Billy Goat said the party was planning to go to congress to reorganize for the 2016 elections.

In view of this, he indicated that Mrs. Rawlings, who is the leader of the party, would be going round the country with executives of the NDP to put adequate measures in place for the next elections.

Owusu Bempah believes the move is part of the grand scheme by a group he described as ‘the Castle mafia’ to peddle lies to destroy the reputation of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the President of the 31st December Women’s Movement (DWM) and her people.

“It’s an agenda that they want to push because our party has decided to go and join the ‘Let My Vote Count’ crusade to make sure that the right thing is done but it’s not working.”

The former President and NDC founder, Jerry John Rawlings recently reiterated that the NDP is a party for the future.
