Conveners of pressure group ‘Let My Vote Count Alliance’ have indicated that they will resist any attempt by the Koforidua District Police Command to stop them from organizing their intended public forum in town on Sunday.
In pursuance of Nana Akufo-Addo and two other plaintiffs’ election law suit, the group is embarking on a nationwide campaign to rally support for the court action.
Organizers of the Alliance are yet to honour the Madina Police Command’s invitation for questioning in connection with the official launch at Dome Kwabenya last weekend.
Information reaching Citi News indicates that the Koforidua District Police Command has opposed the group’s intended public forum.
But a leading member of the ‘Let My Vote Count Alliance,’ David Asante stated that nothing will stop them from organizing the event.
“We presented notification to the Eastern Regional Police through our Coordinator in the region and the Police gave us the green light and even promised to give us protection, only to be told later that we can no longer go ahead with the programme as scheduled.”
Mr. Asante further explained that “the Police intended given us two police personnel and told us to go ahead with our programme only for us to be told this morning that we cannot have the programme on Sunday as originally scheduled in spite of the preparations that have gone down and the police is giving us the reason that we did not indicate the speakers who are going to be on the platform and also we did not specify the time.”
“What is the big deal with the time we intend having our programme which the police have consented to let us have, we find it a deliberate attempt on the part of the police to stifle the entire movement so we are going ahead with the programme on Sunday,” he noted.
