BIA calls on government to investigate activities of former Customs Officer

The Bureau for Internal Affairs (BIA), on Friday called on the government to investigate the rules of re-engagement of Edward Boakye, a former employee of the Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority.

BIA, which is a centre for information gathering on public concerns alleged that Mr Boakye who describes himself as an appointee of the Office of the President is stoking tension in the Service.

A statement signed by Co-ordinating Director of the Bureau, Godfred Nkrumah, claimed that the former Customs officer has formed a taskforce to check smuggling.

It said the alleged assignment Mr Boakye has given himself is conflict of interest and undue interference with the smooth operations of Customs and undermining legitimate authority.

BIA is a centre for gathering information on public concerns, which aims at bridging the communication gap between the public and the authorities on issues negatively affecting the nation.
