A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a 26-year-old driver’s mate to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for attempting to rape his co-tenant.
Yaw Kpankpari, was also charged for causing unlawful damage and unlawful entry.
He pleaded guilty to the charges and was convicted on his own plea.
Police Inspector Daniel Opoku told the Court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the victim and convict live in the same house at Moshie Zongo in Kumasi.
On January 21st this year, at about 12.30am, the victim was then sleeping when Kpankpari broke into her room, through the window.
She got startled only to find Kpankpari standing by her bed.
The convict attempted to forcibly have sex with her but the victim shouted for help and other co-tenants rushed to the scene but Kpankpari took to his heels.
A report was made to the Police and during investigation, he was arrested.
He admitted the offence in his caution statement.
