The Supreme Court will today determine whether lawyers for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by Tsatsu Tsikata should be allowed to comment on the interlocutory suit served on the Electoral Commission (EC) by the presidential candidate of New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo and his co-petitioners.
The three petitioners, Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey are demanding the actual figure of Ghanaian residents abroad who were registered for ahead of the 2012 elections.
At the last hearing Mr. Tsikata was prevented from speaking on the matter because the court said he could do so only if a formal application on the matter has been filed.
Nana Addo and the other petitioners are challenging the results of the 2012 presidential elections which the NPP claims was rigged in favor of President John Dramani Mahama.
President Mahama, the Chairman of the Electoral Commissio, Dr Kwadow Afari Gyan and the Commission are the named respondent in the petition.
The Supreme Court granted the NDC’s application to join the petition because President Mahama won the elections on its ticket.
