Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Minister-designate for Education, has stated that the issue of exchanging sex for grade is not overriding rule in the tertiary institutions in Ghana and compromises quality of the country’s educational system.
According to the Professor, young women could excel in schools, should they eschew deviant activities and study hard.
The former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, taking her turn before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, frowned over the act reiterating that young ladies do not need to bribe male lectures in any form to pass their examinations.
“Sex for grades at the Universities I’ve heard it, I can’t deny that but it is not overriding thing at the Universities. It is not the rule; it is a rare exception, except that it is still bad. Even if it is one person doing it doesn’t make it right.
“When these happen it compromises the whole process that we have put in place, the idea of fairness and objectivity is seriously compromised,” she observed.
She emphasized that although it is not difficult to pass tertiary examinations some “lazy” students decide not to study hard leaving some unscrupulous lectures to take advantage of them.
