‘Three wise men’ are ‘connection men’ in NDC – Ken Kurankye

The fourth appointment list of President John Mahama named three former ministers, E. T. Mensah, Cletus Avoka and Alban Bagbin, who are popularly referred to as ‘three wise men’ as coordinators of presidential special priority projects.

But the Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight newspaper, Kenneth Agyei Kurankye, in a scathing attack labeled the ex- ministers as “connection men” and “goro boys” who will coordinate dubious activities within the presidency.

To him, the trio will supervise and facilitate looting of state funds for themselves and for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking on an Accra based Citi FM on Saturday Mr Kurankye was emphatic that the appointments of “the three wise men” are just “job for the boys”.

He however explained that the various ministries designate for the individuals to operate already have substantive ministers, stressing the appointments were useless and incoherent.

“Once the President decides to give them something to do they become a charge on the consolidated fund, the nation is going to spend money on them and they are also going to spend billions of dollars in executing these projects.

“So if they are going to coordinate the expenditure of public money how do we hold them to account when they are neither ministers nor deputies. So in case of any embezzlement we can’t bring them to parliament to question them,” he revealed.

Deputy Minority leader of Parliament, Dominic Nitiwul who was also on the programme said the three presidential coordinators do not have any mandate to appear in parliament to transact business on behalf of the President.
