Farmer jailed 24 years for defiling 13-year-old girl

The Juaso Circuit Court has sentenced Kofi Appenteng, a 29-year-old farmer at Kyempo near Obogu in the Asante Akim South District to 24 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 13-year-old girl.

The court presided over by Mr. Alex Obeng Asante handed him the sentence after he pleaded guilty to one count of defilement.

Police Inspector Mannaseh Obimpe, prosecuting told the court that the complainant, Yaw Daniel and the convict are both farmers at Kyempo.

He explained that on January 2, the complainant and his wife went to the farm and left behind the victim and her other siblings in the house.

Later in the day, the convict who noticed the absence of the parents of the victim took advantage to lure her to a nearby bush where he forcibly had sex with her.

A week later, the victim who could no longer endure a severe vaginal pain, informed her mother about her ordeal.

A formal complaint was made to the Obogu Police, leading to the arrest of the convict.
