Show interest in patients – health officers urged

Mr. Victor Emmanuel Smith, Eastern Regional Care-taker Minister, has admonished medical officers in the country to show interest in patients who patronized their services at their respective hospitals.

He said it was their responsibility to have bigger hearts to accommodate frustrations of their patients or clients and do well to get them to appreciate their work through counseling and dialogue “so that they do not go about with negative reports about you.”

Mr. Smith was addressing medical officers in Koforidua during the Annual Performance Review Meeting of the Eastern Regional Hospital on Wednesday.

He said it was time the public got to understand the nature of the medical practice so that they would not go just rushing on nurses to seek attention for themselves or for their relatives.

“If you counsel or educate the people well about the nature of your work, with time they will come to appreciate you with the work you do rather than also being harsh on them; we should show care to people at the first point of contact,” he said.

Mr. Smith implored the medical officers to give up their best and assist government to perform and fulfill what it had promised to do, adding that “we as a government are doing everything we could to reduce the numerous health challenges in the country.”

Dr. McDamien Dedzo, Regional Director of Health, entreated the staff at the Koforidua Regional Hospital to work together as a team so that Ghana could maintain a strong human resource.

Dr. Kwame Anim Boamah, Hospital Director, appealed to the general public, especially patients and clients, to help the hospital to keep a clean environment.

“Despite the litter bins provided at vantage points, the citizens still litter profusely within and around the hospital.”
