Minority boycotts vetting?

Minority leader, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has denied knowledge of Minority MPs decision to boycott the upcoming vetting of President John Mahama’s appointees.

Monday’s edition of the New Statesman Newspaper speculated that Minority MP’s on the Appointments Committee are likely to boycott the upcoming exercise. But the Minority leader debunked the publication in an interview and disclosed that the NPP leadership had programmed to meet and discuss the matter thoroughly to arrive at an official position.

“My party is scheduled to meet and discuss this matter thoroughly to participate or not to participate in the vetting; now if we have to participate, it will be wrong for me to discuss the nominees before they appear before the appointments committee, it will prejudice the vetting process even before they appear before us.”

Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu rather highlighted a three day workshop held in Koforidua for both incoming and continuing Members of Ghana’s fifth Parliament saying, “We had a workshop to provide some orientation for Members of Parliament particularly the new ones but we involved everybody including the continuing members because it is important that we try to build the capacities of Members of Parliament to discharge their duties effectively.”

He described the workshop very productive because members were schooled on Parliamentary procedure, the rules of procedure they will be working with and the relevant portions of the constitution they will have to apply.”
