Ghana to celebrate World AIDS Day on January 16

Mr Ethel Codjoe Amissah, Public Relations Officer for the Greater Accra Regional Co-Ordinating Council said Wednesday, January 16, is World AIDS Day.

In a statement issued to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday, Mr Amissah said the day was an opportunity for people living or not living with the disease worldwide to unite to show solidarity in the face of the HIV pandemic, show their support for people living with HIV and commemorate those who had died.

He said this year’s theme would be; “Accelerating to Zero Together”.

He said this was the time for public and private partnerships to raise awareness about the current status of the pandemic.

Mr Amissah encouraged the improvement of progress in HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment, care and research agenda around the world.

He said the event would take place on the said date at 0900 hours at the Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
