Ex-convict jailed two years for stealing

An 18-year-old ex-convict, Yaw Gyabaa, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment on his own plea by a Dormaa-Ahenkro circuit court.

He pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing a school bag containing items worth 60 Ghana cedis.

Police Chief Inspector Bismarck Boye Lartey, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Alexander Osei Tutu, that the complainants were Mr Johnson Adjei, a mason and Peter Ababio, a teacher, while the ex-convict was a farmer from Manteware near Dormaa-Ahenkro.

He said on December 29, last year at dawn, John woke up to urinate and saw the ex-convict sneaking into his room. He raised the alarm and Peter joined him and they managed to arrest the ex-convict.

Chief Inspector Lartey said upon a search, a school bag containing some items worth GH¢60.00 belonging to Peter was found on Gyabaa and after investigations he was charged with the offence.

Prosecution tendered a notice of conviction which sentenced Gyabaa to six months imprisonment in August, 2012, for stealing.
