The chiefs and people of Sefwi-Anhwiaso traditional area, have celebrated their annual “Yam Festival” amidst splendid cultural performance and fanfare.
The event, which in the past heralded the harvesting of yams, is now been used as a platform to discuss plans for executing development in Sefwi-Anhwiaso.
Nana Yaw Gyebi-Ogyeahoho, the Omanhene, at a durbar of the chiefs and people, held at Anhwiaso, called for peace, unity and hard work towards development.
The chief advised parents to send their children, particularly, the girls, to school to enable them to acquire skills and knowledge needed for national development.
He condemned the rushing of girls into marriage, and sending of others to the cities to work as house helps.
Nana Gyebi-Ogyeahoho appealed to mining companies operating in the area, to support the Girls’ Senior High School at Anhwiaso, to promote female education.
Mr Kingsley Aboagye, Member of Parliament for the area, said he would work hard to promote education, health and security in the area.
