Britain assures Ghana of increased bilateral co-operation

Britain on Tuesday gave the assurance that it would sustain collaboration with Ghana and increase its investment for mutually beneficial returns.

Britain lauded Ghana’s democratic governance and pledged to work to deepen the already cordial relations between the two nations.

Mr Mark Simmonds, the British Minister for Africa, who led a UK delegation to the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama on Monday in Accra, said these when he paid a courtesy call on Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah- Arthur at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

The leader of the UK delegation congratulated the Government and people of Ghana on a successful inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama and the Vice President Amissah-Arthur for a four-year term.

Mr Simmonds, who was accompanied by Mr Peter Jones, British High Commissioner in Accra, said he was impressed with the organization of the inaugural ceremony.

The leader of the delegation lauded the practice of democracy in Ghana and assured the country of improved co-operation and bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur expressed the Government’s gratitude to the UK for the immense support it gave to the Electoral Commission, especially the training of 16,000 security personnel and polling station agents before the December 7 and 8 elections.

He said: “Ghana cherishes her relations with the UK and will continue to maintain this long standing bond”.
