Farmer fined for defrauding gold dealer

A circuit court in Tarkwa imposed a fine of 600 Ghana cedis on a 23-year-old farmer, Kwabena David, for defrauding a gold dealer by false pretence.

The court also ordered Kwabena David, who pleaded not guilty to refund 8,500 Ghana cedis he took from the gold dealer in 2010.

Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the accused, who resides in Prestea, approached the complainant in Tarkwa and collected the amount with the promise to supply him gold.

The court heard that Kwabena David went into hiding after taking the money, but on June 6, last year, the complainant spotted the accused in Prestea and caused his arrested and handed him over to the police.
