Ghanaian youths challenged to be more patriotic

Mr Benson Ankody, an Agriculture Engineer, has challenged Ghanaian youths to be more patriotic and make the interest of Ghana paramount.

He bemoaned the situation where most youths in Ghana lined-up at the premises of foreign missions seeking for visas to travel to the western world in search of greener pastures, which never exist.

This, he said, had led to the nation losing critical skills such as medical doctors, nurses and teachers.

Mr Ankody, also an entrepreneur, a motivational speaker and youth advocate, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Saturday at Amrahia near Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region.

He said: “Ghana is the only nation we have and if we cannot sacrifice to develop her, then who will do that for us?”

Mr Ankody advised those who embarked on further studies abroad to come back home to help develop the nation.

He expressed regret over the state of corruption in the country adding that it was a social canker which must be dealt with at all levels of society.

He said corruption could start right from the basic levels of education where some students, with the connivance of their teachers, engaged in examination malpractices.

He urged educational institutions and the West African Examination Council to be vigilant to safeguard the future of the youth.

Mr Ankody also urged the youth to acquire employable and entrepreneurship skills to make them self employed after graduation.

He commended Mr Roland Agambire, Chief Executive Officer of Rlg, for acquiring entrepreneurship skills as a youth, and providing jobs for countless number of youths in Ghana and across West Africa.

Mr Ankody advised the youths to take a cue from Mr Agambire and develop ambitions for themselves and remain focused in the pursuit of those ambitions no matter what happened along the way.
