Mahama must ‘boycott’ his swearing-in – Appiah Ofori

Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa P.C Appiah Ofori is urging President-elect John Dramani Mahama to boycott his inauguration if he truly believes in democracy.

The outspoken MP speaking to XYZ News said the president will be acting in contempt of the Supreme Court if he allows the inauguration to take place knowing his legitimacy is being challenged.

P.C Appiah Ofori also said his party will be defeating the purpose of its challenge of the election results at the Supreme Court if its leaders attended the inauguration ceremony.

“If Mahama does not want to be in contempt of Court then he should not submit himself for his swearing-in because he is the first respondent in the case” the lawmaker said.

On whether former President Kufuor should attend the ceremony or not, the outgoing MP said it’s all up to the former President to decide.

“The former President if he wants to attend then it is not because of the party but his status as former President. He can go if he so wishes”.
