Court sentences two robbers to 120 years imprisonment

A Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Justice William Boampong has sentenced two convicted robbers to a total of 120 years imprisonment in hard labour.

Godwin Bota, 20, and Mustapha Abdulai, 21, both auto mechanics are each going in for 60 years.

They had been charged with conspiracy, robbery and causing harm and pleaded guilty.

Police Inspector Gulliver Tenkorang told the court that the victim, George Ackon, is a shoe seller and resides at Bremang, whilst both convicts live at Tarkwa-Maakro, all in Kumasi.

He said the victim had gone to the Maakro lorry station on December 2, at about 0400 hours, to board a commercial vehicle to Kejetia and as he waited, the two, armed with knives attacked him.

They seized GH¢800.00 found on him, a Samsung cellular phone, four pairs of shoes,a leather bag and stabbed him and escaped.

Ackon later reported to the hospital for treatment.

The prosecution said on December 28, at about 1600 hours, the victim chanced upon Bota with the stolen leather bag at the Kejetia terminal, where he raised the alarm and assisted by other people, arrested and handed him over to the police.

During interrogation, he revealed the name of his accomplice, Abdulai and led the police to apprehend him.
